R-E-S-P-E-C-T

The word respect is a human invention. It’s purpose and use is to elicit a group of feelings that include power, authority, boundaries, value and whatever else the listener associates with the word.

Horses don’t know diddley about the word respect OR it’s human interpretations.  If you want to be a good trainer with your horse forget the word respect and focus on what you want in terms of PHYSICAL actions.  Do you want your horse to stop within 2 feet of you? Then train that.

As a trainer my goal is to give my horse clear cues or signals. What I want from my horse is an effort to figure out what I want because he WANTS to. That’s good horse training.

About clickertraininghorses - Peggy Hogan

I teach people and train horses using positive reinforcement. The horses I work with are given choice, the freedom to volunteer behavior. The joy is that they strive to volunteer what works for both of us.
